LeaderSports Featured Athlete: JaKayla Kirk – Jasper High School

Jasper High Junior JaKayla Kirk is a two-sport athlete, playing guard in basketball for head coach Blake Laney and a jumper and sprinter for head track coach Andy Franks.

JaKayla has a 4.0 GPA, and her favorite subjects are English and Math. She is also involved in the National Honor Society, Beta Club, Minority Achievement Council, and Peer Helper.

In addition, she is the Junior Ambassador of Walker County, Jasper High School Sweetheart, and Junior Class Favorite.

“I overcome adversity when I can see what went wrong. That motivates me to work harder at practice so I’m not in that situation again,” says JaKayla.

After graduating in the Spring of 2024, she plans to attend college, majoring in Health Sciences to become an OB/GYN. She hopes to continue running track. 

Recently, JaKayla broke her sister’s Jasper/Walker High School record in the 400m run with a time of 59.31.

JaKayla is the daughter of Jimmy and Michelle Kirk.
