The Southeastern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Softball Crossover Tournament is set to take place from March 11th through March 13th at the Memorial Park Softball Complex in Jasper. This annual tournament has been held in Jasper for 14 years, with this year marking the 10th consecutive year.
The tournament features 13 college softball teams from the SIAC, including Miles, Tuskegee, Spring Hill, Albany State, Savannah State, Kentucky State, Spring, Allen, LeMoyne-Owen, Lane, Benedict, Edward Waters, Fort Valley State, and Clark Atlanta.
“This tournament coming to Jasper originated through the work of former council member Willie Moore, who was a staple in looking after our Parks and Recreation efforts before his retirement, and we always enjoy welcoming the players, coaching staff, and leadership from the various participating colleges to Jasper,” said Mayor David O’Mary. “It gives us a unique opportunity to showcase our city to an audience that might not otherwise get to enjoy it, and we get positive feedback from it yearly.”
O’Mary also noted that the tournament is foundational to the city’s ability to expand recreational efforts, among other initiatives.
The tournament kicks off at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday with Tuskegee vs. Savannah State.
